Tom Cruise Will Make Mission: Impossible 5
The last entry in the Mission: Impossible franchise (subtitled Ghost Protocol) – helmed by Pixar-legend Brad Bird - was without a doubt the best entry in the series so far: gone were the feelings of “bland action movie” and replaced with something that was both fun and thrilling in equal measure. Bird brought some actual life to the series, and now the possibility of another Ethan Hunt outing seems… exciting?
So this time around, instead of the usual eye-rolling and shoulder-shrugging, it’s genuinely good to hear that Tom Cruise is looking to make another Mission: Impossible movie. Talking recently on the future of the franchise, he had this to say:
“Seeing an audience respond… to have that experience is really wonderful. I started Mission: Impossible hoping I could make many of them. It’s a character that I can grow with. At that time it was the most expensive film in the history of Paramount Pictures, and the first film I was producing. It’s been pretty exciting. I’ll make a bunch of those. I’ll make as many as people want to see… because they’re very challenging, and so much fun to make. We’re already working on different images. Talking conceptually. I love travelling around promoting different movies because I’m always looking at different places, and I always walk around to see the city. I look at architecture, subways… coming up with different sequences.”
So ol’ Tom is already working on different images, whatever that means. Just don’t be surprised when the big set-piece turns out to be based in a subway. He’s had a look at a few.
Let’s hope they can find a director to match Brad Bird’s know how. What do you think?
