According to the LA Times, Samuel L. Jackson has been cast in Spike Lee’s upcoming Oldboy remake. Already set to star Josh Brolin in the lead role and Sharlto Copley and Elizabeth Olsen in supporting parts, Jackson is now set to take on a small yet important part. While not many details were revealed about who he would play, it was stated that his character will be a “man who is being tortured by the hero (Brolin) in a key revenge scene.”

The LA Times points out that the scene is likely the one from the original where Dae-Su Oh does a little dental work on one of his victims, with a hammer. It’s a very brutal and violent scene and one that will likely have many covering their eyes.

With filming just around the corner (it starts this Fall in Louisiana and New York), we should have more details soon but the LA Times is saying that the torture scene in question will be altered slightly. Though they make sure to tell us that it’s still “plenty painful.”

In further news, Bruce Hornsby has hopped on board the film too and will be composing the score.

“I’m working on a few things and I’ll send them to Spike soon,” he said. “The ‘D’ word has been spoken to me by him,” the musician added, referring to a dark tone. “But I think the score will also run the gamut,” said Hornsby.

So, plenty of news today in regards to the upcoming Oldboy remake. Samuel L. Jackson‘s involvement is definitely good news and with the cast that Lee is assembling, my faith in this remake is starting to emerge. I was skeptical at first, as I loved the original, but so far, I think the film is headed in the right direction.
