Team USA Survives to Win Gold Over Spain
It was closer than expected, but Team USA pulled through behind their big 3 of Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and Kobe Bryant to win 107-100 over Spain. The game was close throughout as Spain was on fire from three-point range, and they fouled the Americans every chance they got, so USA couldn’t get into a rhythm. It was good that he gold medal game was close because we saw what boys are made of. Lebron continued his growth by controlling the game when the pressure was on. It seemed like he was patiently making the right play every time. Kevin Durant didn’t have a good shooting day, but when they had to have a shot, he delivered. Kobe was still Kobe, although I saw him as consciously taking a back seat and being one of the guys in this his final Olympics. Outside of them, Chris Paul was huge in the 4th quarter when Lebron was in foul trouble. He made a three pointer and driving lay-up at the shot clock buzzer that gave Team USA control of the game. I wanted to see Team USA win easily, but this is a good win, and with both Spain and Argentina probably in their last Olympics as presently constructed, I think the USA’s reign of dominance in basketball has no end in sight.
